Apprenticeship Success Story
Sheffield Housing Company are celebrating the completion of the 600th home, the creation of 500 new jobs and 60 apprenticeships.
The 60th apprentice is Cameron Akers from Darnall, who is now training in horticulture with Northern Groundcare Ltd carrying out landscaping on SHC developments. Cameron said:
“I did my A levels at college but didn’t really want to go to university. I never saw myself doing this kind of work but when the chance came up, I decided to give it a go and I absolutely love it. We move around from site to site and the work is never the same day after day. I love the variety and the outdoors.”
Learning while he is earning has also meant Cameron 18, has been able to get mobile and buy himself a car.
Sheffield Housing Company have spent over 80 million within the construction sector within the city region, 452 homes were purchased outright, 26 homes were offered at the current market rent and 86 homes were offered at affordable rent.
